Market penetration of banks for Norwegian large corporations in 2024

DNB was the leading bank for large corporations in Norway in 2024, when they had a market penetration rate of 89 percent. The banks that followed were Nordea and Danske Bank. DNB was not only the largest bank for large corporations in Norway, it was also the leading bank in terms of total assets, reaching a value of around 2,1 trillion Norwegian kroner in 2019.

DNB’s position at the Norwegian bank market

   DNB is the only Norwegian bank of such size. Among the leading banks, the first to follow DNB were a range of foreign banks, before the Sparebank’s (Norwegian savings banks). In 2022, DNB also had the largest market share of loans, both private and corporate. They had also the highest market share of deposits, of both private and corporate customers.

Loans in Norway

   The largest share of loans in Norway in 2022, were private mortgage loans. They composed almost half, 47 percent, of all loans in Norway and were followed by corporate loans, with a share of 26 percent. Companies within commercial and industrial real estate composed the largest share of corporate lenders, with 46 percent of the total corporate loans.
